Off-Site Backups with CrashPlan
In my post “Backup Early and Often”, I have blogged about how I have implemented my backup-strategy.
Although, I was generally happy with it, one important part was missing: Off-site backups.
On Friday the 23rd 2012 I have made a real bargain during black-friday sale.
CrashPlan started out giving away their subscriptions for free and then adding little by little every hour. When I have read about it, I thought it was a good chance of giving them a try and finally got the CrashPlan+ Family subscription for 2.88$ instead of 119.99$.
I can now back up an unlimited amount of data to their servers for one year.
Since I have subscribed, I have almost pushed all my ~200GB of image data to their servers. It took some time, since I can only do that from home when my drive with all my images is connected, but in a couple of hours more I am finished.
The following screenshot has been taken when I have started uploading all images files.
The next screenshot is from today.
Now, I can really be relaxed. Even when something happens to all my working- and backup-drives I still have my data available.
Not sure what I will do when my subscription ends. I either pay the full fee or I try out something else. Amazon Clacier looks very tempting.
Done for today!
